TARA’s Gloria K. Borona attended a conservation and management workshop in Australia from 9 – 20 July 2012. This workshop was a follow up of the rock art management courses held under the banner of the Southern African Rock Art Project in recent years. The participants drawn from South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya had an opportunity to share, learn and compare experiences with Australian colleagues on indigenous management of the rock art sites in the context of the associated natural and cultural heritage. The theme of the workshop tied up with TARA’s work of engaging communities in the management of rock art sites as the primary stakeholders. Gloria’s presentation showcased TARA’s community conservation projects in Africa highlighting the successes as well as the challenges. The workshop was made possible through the support of the Getty Conservation Institute and the Institute for Professional Practice in Heritage and Arts at the Australian National University.
